Domain Infections

A domain infection sets in at level 20 if an individual has any particular flavor domain type for their abilities which is found in 20% or more of their abilities. Domain infections at first have very little effect, but as they grow stronger, they accumulate into more significant influences on an individual that has one. Every level the effect slightly increases, as long as the domain infection is not replaced. An individual may only have 5 domain infections on them at any particular time, and the lowest is always replaced by a newer one that exceeds it in percentage of abilities the domain is found in, regardless of the rank of that fifth domain infection. This resets the domain infection if it comes back at a higher level, further ensuring all entities using different domains for abilities have a chance to conceal which sources they are using if they vary their usage enough, as well as having the potential to change their mind later to emphasize specific domains they might not have originally gained domains infections in, but at the cost of losing the at least one current domain infection.

Energy Category

Illuminate

The illuminate domain is the spark of inspiration, the light in the darkness, and the font of knowledge.

Those with an illuminate domain infection have a glowing sclera, a swirling white glowing pattern on their shoulders and back, and a swirling white glowing pattern on their fingers and back of their hands. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, their patterns will produce a blinding flash of light for an instant, which will affect any who are currently looking at them at the time.

Temperance

The temperance domain is primarily used by passionate individuals who temper attraction with decency per the interaction of cultures involved, and is often used by charming rogues and bards who are of a more noble romanticism, and diplomats using specific phrasing, tone and intonation to dissuade disagreements swelling into larger problems.

Those with a temperance domain infection have red bands along their sternum which go out to their back and then curve up into pointed ends on their shoulders, as well as a red ring separating their iris into two other rings. These markings will be relatively bland normally, but when attempting to use charisma even outside an ability they will faintly glow, and brighter when using an ability which uses the temperance domain. Its weekly or daily effect bonus will be able to be used outside an ability if so desired once when attempting to use charisma, but it will become as bright as when using an ability. While resting at least 4 hours and having a romantic dream, the patterns will pulse out the infected's charisma at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Magnetism

The magnetism domain is oft used literally for use affecting the physics of an object or being, but paired with other flavor domains it may also be used figuratively for a variety of means.

Those with a magnetism domain infection have grey lines or bands horizontally or vertically along their chest and forearms, grey flecks along the outer edge of their irises, and have a faint magnetic field around them (a +1 magnetic aura). Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, their patterns will produce a stronger effect. If their mood is positive, it will pull objects toward them, and if negative, it will push objects away from them (+4 in either direction).

Electricity

The electricity domain is great for powering various devices, as well as striking down foes, among a myriad of other potential purposes.

Those with an electricity domain infection have sparking electric arcs lightly between their fingertips, sparking within their hair, sparking in their eyes, and a glowing yellow zig-zag pattern on their hands and forearms. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, their sparking will increase and apply the shock status effect for 1d10/2 turns without damage to those adjacent to them if their mood is negative, striking directly into the nearest non-living grounding material if positive.

Lechery

The lechery domain is for those who are seeking to satiate their own desires or to try to manipulate others into being distracted by their own, or putting them into exploitable situations.

Those with a lechery domain infection have dark purple bands with a swirling pattern along their sternum which go out to their back and then curve up into pointed ends on their shoulders, as well as a dark purple ring separating their iris into two other rings. These markings will be relatively bland normally, but when attempting to use charisma even outside an ability they will faintly glow, and brighter when using an ability which uses the lechery domain. Its weekly or daily effect bonus will be able to be used outside an ability if so desired once when attempting to use charisma, but it will become as bright as when using an ability. While resting at least 4 hours and having a lecherous dream, the patterns will pulse out the infected's charisma at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Ember

The ember domain is especially useful for those who just want to watch the world burn. Or, you know, help prevent forest fires. Among other purposes.

Those with an ember domain infection have hair that is aflame but not diminishing, as well as triangular markings producing flame on their shoulders, and triangular pupils with an edge to them which glows with orange firelight. While resting at least 4 hours, they will have a produce an increase of temperature in their defensive range, lighting any tinder or other such easily flammable material aflame, such as relighting any torches or campfire which may have gone out, or if it was still active, increasing its flame for a 1d10/2 turns.

Presence

The presence domain is especially useful for those who just want to communicate with the dead. Also used for those of a more spiritual nature or those who wish to stop a haunting. Among other purposes.

Those with a presence domain infection have faintly glowing pale green nerves, the center of their pupils appearing white, their skin becoming slightly translucent, and faint grey wisps of those they have slain wafting off of their back. Upon waking or coming out of meditation, those who are looking directly at them will have the panic status effect applied to them for 1d10/2 turns without damage.

Depth Category

Stone

The stone domain is perfect for those who love manipulating rocks and minerals.

Those with a stone domain infection have patches of craggy rock skin laced with minerals, almost always needing to ingest 10% or more hard foods in their diet (and being able to ingest 30% more than their normal maximum), and their irises take a pattern of a mineral closest in color to what their irises used to be, being rolled from a table of minerals of the same range of coloration when the source infection triggers the first time (and the same one if it triggers again). Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will slough off 1d10/2 kg of that mineral from their skin which may be collected. No further may be collected without damaging the individual in order to remove it.

Charity

The charity domain is perfect for those who like to help others with their actions, donations and advice.

Those with a charity domain infection have feathery silver curves along their shoulders, shins and wrists, and the center of their pupil is silver taking up half of its size. Upon waking from at least 4 hours of rest, they will find 1d10/2 copper pieces or small piece of edible material in their offensive range with their passive observation revealing what specifically they find.

Density

The density domain is perfect for those who like to condense and stretch objects, slowing their opponents, and those who wish to try defying gravity.

Those with a density domain infection have triangular dark grey patterning along their shoulders, arms and hands, their eyes will have six joined circles or ovals forming their pupil instead of a singular circle or oval, and any hair, plumage or other similar will extend by 1d10 centimeters. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that has lasted at least 4 hours, if their mood is negative their body decrease by 1d10/2 sizes for 1d10/2 turns, and if positive, increasing by 1d10/2 sized for 1d10/2 turns, reverting to normal afterward, and unable to go beyond the lower and upper size limits. If their new form is unable to fit into the space they are in and their strength is not enough to clear more space, they will revert back to normal size immediately.

Metal

The metal domain is perfect for those who like to shape and remold metal.

Those with a metal domain infection have patches of their skin turn to a non-precious metal (rolled when it first triggers and remaining the same if triggering again later), almost always needing to ingest 10% or more metal in their diet (and being able to ingest 30% more than their normal maximum), their eyes will take on a metallic hue of silver, gold, copper, bronze or other luster, with their pupils taking on a circular sawblade shape. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will slough off 1d10/2 kg of that metal from their skin which may be collected. No further may be collected without damaging the individual in order to remove it.

Avarice

The avarice domain is close to heart for those who are slumlords, con artists and thieves especially, as well as many government officials.

Those with an avarice domain infection have scaly gold curves along their shoulders, shins and wrists, and the center of their pupil is gold taking up half of its size. Upon waking from at least 4 hours of rest, they will find 1d10/2 gold pieces or small material of similar value in their offensive range with their passive observation revealing what specifically they find.

Morphean

The morphean domain is perfect for those who like to peek into the dreams of others, manipulating them, causing or removing nightmares and those who seek to manipulate grains or even entire beaches and deserts of sand.

Those with a morphean domain infection have their body, clothes and hair covered in sand and dust grit all the time, as well as almost always having a trail of it following behind them wherever they go even when using stealth if failing a willpower check performed at that time, and their eyes have a tan or milky color to their irises with two black bands at both the inner and outer edge of their irises, and bright yellow or orange pupils. When resting at least 4 hours, they will have a 1d10 chance of either 2d10 grams of xhunfo sand or dreamsand sloughing off of them depending on whether they had a dream or nightmare, but it will fade away after 1d10/2 turns if not used.

Preservation

The preservation domain is perfect for those who seek to protect the quality of food and water, disperse heat and other dangers across a surface area, and construct a durable structure out of ordinarily soft materials.

Those with a preservation domain have patches of their skin excrete salt or clay (rolled when it first triggers and remaining the same if triggering again later), almost always needing to ingest 10% or more salt in their diet (and being able to ingest 30% more than their normal maximum), and their pupils taking on a square shape with white along the edge. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will slough off 1d10/2 kg of that material from their skin which may be collected. No further may be collected without damaging the individual in order to remove it.

Rooted Category

Harvest

The harvest domain is highly favored for those of farming, tea-ceremony or other botanical backgrounds, mostly concerning plants and soil, the ordered structure of both, and how to manipulate them. An example of usage might be to stimulate the grown of crops, or to speak with ancient pines to investigate a disappearance decades earlier…

Those with a harvest domain infection have leaves and petals sprouting from their hair (rolled when it first triggers and remaining the same if triggering again later), patches of their skin turn to wood covered with vines or plant stem matter (also rolled), torn brown wreath shape around the pupil and green irises with flecks of their original color. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will slough off 1d10/2 kg of leaves, petals or skin patch material (rolled on which one) which may be collected. No further may be collected without damaging the individual in order to remove it.

Humility

The humility domain is well-known to many acolytes who serve a numina or other being far greater than them.

Those with a humility domain infection have pale blue bands along their back which go out to their sternum and then curve up into pointed ends on their shoulders, as well as a pale blue ring separating their iris into two other rings. These markings will be relatively bland normally, but when attempting to use morale even outside an ability they will faintly glow, and brighter when using an ability which uses the humility domain. Position

The position domain is perfect for navigators, mapmakers and explorers.

Those with a position domain infection have faintly glowing pale yellow rounded four-pointed star and straight five-pointed star speckles of varying size on their chest and shoulders, the pupils of their eyes will increase and take on a rounded four-pointed or straight five-pointed star shape, and a constellation-like speckling of white flecks in their irises. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will find themselves 2d10 meters away from where they were in a random direction if having a negative mood and will have any hostile entity in their defensive range of their Willpower or lower moved away by 2d10 meters from where they were in a random direction away from them.

Umbral

The umbral domain is appreciated by rogues, ninjas, assassins, thieves, hunters and a great many others.

Those with a umbral domain infection have a black sclera, a swirling spiked black pattern on their shoulders and back, and a swirling black pattern on their fingers and palm of their hands. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, their patterns will produce a blinding black aura for an instant, which will affect any who are currently looking at them at the time.

Vanity

The vanity domain is well-known to those who seek beauty and fame over anything else.

Those with a vanity domain infection have pale purple bands along their back which go out to their sternum and then curve up into pointed ends on their shoulders, as well as a pale purple ring separating their iris into two other rings. These markings will be relatively bland normally, but when attempting to use morale even outside an ability they will faintly glow, and brighter when using an ability which uses the vanity domain. Its weekly or daily effect bonus will be able to be used outside an ability if so desired once when attempting to use morale, but it will become as bright as when using an ability. While resting at least 4 hours and having a strongly positive dream, the patterns will pulse out the infected's morale at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Rot

The rot domain is frequently used by individuals trying to combat it, or to further accelerate its effects. Morticians seek to slow it until a body is in the ground, and sometimes even beyond that. Mushroom farmers seek for it to a bolster their crops, and most healers try to study its effects in order to counter it.

Those with a rot domain infection have their skin covered in patches with non-damaging sores and rot, as well as having fungus growing out of it (rolled when it first triggers and remaining the same if triggering again later), especially in their hair, back and shoulders, 10% or more soft foods in their diet (and being able to ingest 30% more than their normal maximum) and their eyes will have a milky film over their entirety which will be able difficult for people to see their normal eye coloration through, but the infected will be able to see through it at only -1 observation reduction when first waking or coming out of meditation for 1d10/2 turns before it is normal. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will slough off 2d10 grams of fungus which may be collected. No further may be collected without damaging the individual in order to remove it.

Extract

The extract domain is typically used by physicians, the syrup industry and some inventors. Primarily it is focused around the inner power of floral life and not the external form or extensions such as apples and the like, which falls under harvest.

Those with an extract domain infection have their skin covered in patches with non-damaging sores which exude syrup, sap, rubber or other extracts (rolled when it first triggers and remaining the same if triggering again later), especially in their hair, back and shoulders, 10% or more soft foods in their diet (and being able to ingest 30% more than their normal maximum) and their eyes will have a brown ring in the center of their irises. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will slough off 2d10 grams of extract which may be collected. No further may be collected without damaging the individual in order to remove it.

Bodily Category

Mortis

The mortis domain is very favored by morticians, taxidermists, and especially liches, alongside the presence domain.

Those with a mortis domain infection have bones protruding from their skin at the joints, the sclera of their eyes will become purple, their irises will become white and their pupils will become whatever color their irises previously were. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will slough off 2d10 grams of bone chips which may be collected. No further may be collected without damaging the individual in order to remove it.

Diligence

The diligence domain is well-known to martial artists, monastic orders and individuals seeking to better themselves through training.

Those with a diligence domain infection have pale grey bands along their arms and curve to points on their shoulders, as well as a pale blue grey separating their iris into two other rings. These markings will be relatively bland normally, but when attempting to use learning even outside an ability they will faintly glow, and brighter when using an ability which uses the diligence domain. Its weekly or daily effect bonus will be able to be used outside an ability if so desired once when attempting to use learning, but it will become as bright as when using an ability. While resting at least 4 hours and having a strongly positive dream, the patterns will pulse out the infected's endurance recover rate at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Irradiate

The irradiate domain is dangerous if used improperly, but typically used by doctors and scientists for examination abilities and equipment, and by those seeking to enhance mutations.

Those with an irradiate domain have skin that glows faintly whatever color it is primarily, crack-like patterns in patches on their skin which glow bright green, their veins bulging and glowing a bright green, and their eyes will have a glowing green band on the inner and outer edges of their irises, as well as their pupils turning purple. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, their crack patterns will produce a burst of irradiation for an instant, which will affect any who are in their defensive range that the time as it bestows the irradiated status effect, lasting 1d10/2 turns, preventing the use of magic and dealing 1d10/2 (rolled once at start of effect) per turn HP damage.

Flesh

The flesh domain is well-known to physicians and other healers, as well as those who seek to further alter their own body-weight distribution either for vanity or for disguising themselves.

Those with a flesh domain infection have increased musculature and throbbing veins, a vertical slit of red in the center of their eyes from top to bottom, and red bands running along their ribs and spine. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a positive mood, the patterns will pulse out the infected's strength at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Torpor

The torpor domain is mostly known to those who are too lazy to try learning other domains, but if utilized properly it can become a major distraction and some suggest its use behind the scenes in major government machinations.

Those with a torpor domain infection have horizontal pale green bands running along their thighs and belly, a horizontal pale green slit in the center of their eyes from left to right, and an increase in bodyfat. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a positive mood, the patterns will pulse out the infected's movement recovery rate at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Vitality

Those who use the vitality domain a lot typically use it for rituals or physical therapy, but some species which consume blood may use it to make their feeding habits less difficult either for themselves or for their donors if the being is willing.

Those with a vitality domain infection have sclera with two concentric red rings in it surrounding the iris, blood mixed in any tears they may produce, a slight reddening of the skin, and throbbing veins. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a positive mood, the patterns will pulse out the infected's health recovery rate at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Instinct

The instinct domain is typically used by animals and more primal species, giving them a higher natural wariness, as well as almost a guiding hand toward defending themselves or avoiding a fight through camouflage or bluffing.

Those with an instinct domain infection have curved pointed black markings under their eyes leading almost to their ears, black diamonds running along their neck, shoulders and back, and their pupils will turn into vertical slits with an edge of red along them. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a positive mood, the patterns will pulse out the infected's focus recovery rate at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Storm Category

Blizzard

Those who use the blizzard domain may use it for simple amusement and refrigeration, but others may use it for devastating effects in the right areas.

Those with a blizzard domain infection have hair that is frosted but not diminishing, as well as pentagonal markings producing frost on their ankles and soles, and pentagonal pupils with an edge to them which glows with pale blue light. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours, they will have a produce a decrease of temperature in their defensive range, cooling or freezing water and other materials of similar freezing points for 1d10/2 turns.

Respect

The respect domain calls to many soldiers and officers of the law, family heads and sometimes to governmental or military officials even. More often than not, it helps manipulate those who aren't aggressive to the user, but it can also be used to simply give a boost to an ally in need.

Those with a respect domain infection have a dark green double-banding around their neck, joined by a line to their shoulders and down their sternum, branching out to their heart and opposite side, as well as a double-banding on their forearms. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a positive mood, the patterns will pulse out the infected's soul power recovery rate at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Chronal

Those obsessed with the chronal domain are typically trying to either see the future and visit it, or to somehow alter the past. Others use it for recalling information, and some even use it simply to further bolster their movement capabilities.

Those with a chronal domain infection have orange veins, hourglass and curving arrows on their back, curving arrows above their ribs, triangles on each joint, their eyes will have orange veins, their irises will have orange triangle flecks in it, and their pupils will have an hourglass shape. Upon waking or coming out of meditation that lasted at least 4 hours, they will find themselves gaining an additional 1d10/2 movement recovery if having a positive mood, and if having a negative one, they will endure 1d10/2 turns of stasis out of instinctual self-preservation.

Breath

The breath domain is favored by singers, musicians, sailors, those utilizing natural or assisted methods of flight, and those simply seeking to amplify their own voice.

Those with a breath domain infection have their hair always tousled about, their clothes always ruffled by a light wind even if there isn't any elsewhere around them, faint yellow feathery patterns on their shoulders, faint yellow glowing curved paths along their back, and their eyes turning black with yellow or blue tinting to the veins within, and black or purple tinting to their veins elsewhere. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a positive mood, the patterns will pulse out the infected's auditory observation at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Derision

Those who use the derision domain tend to be manipulators who seek to do great political and psychological harm to another being.

Those with a derision domain infection have black lips, silver bands running along their cheekbones, lines of silver running from their eyebrows back over the head to their neck and shoulders, and their hands have a silver four-loop knot pattern on them. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a positive mood, the patterns will pulse out the infected's cunning at any who are currently looking at them at the time, once per rest.

Flow

The flow domain is much utilized by sailors and fishermen, as well as a great many inventors and environmentalists.

Those with a flow domain infection have their eyes start to have a wave shape around the pupil and cerulean blue hue to that, their hair will have streaks of blue through parts of it which may be covered by dye but will reappear when it grows out further, and a blue wave-like pattern running along their arms. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours, they will have a produce an increase in moisture in their defensive range, potentially causing condensation on assorted materials for 1d10/2 turns.

Swarm

The swarm domain is much utilized by those who gather resources from insects, other arthropods and migrating animals, as well as those who would wield them for strategic purpose.

Those with a swarm domain infection have a swarm of 2d10 grams of insects following them around (randomly rolled from those in the environment when it initially triggered and remaining the same even if it drops off and comes back), hexagonal patterns of black and yellow in patches on their skin, sclera that look to be compound, and a line of that pattern running down their neck along their spine down to their waist, and if they have one, along their tail as well. While resting or meditating at least 4 hours and having a negative mood, the patterns will pulse out the dazed status effect at any who are currently looking at them at the time for 1d10/2 turns at 1d10/2 damage per turn, once per rest or meditation.

Murk Category

Stain

Usually used by dancers and artists, the stain domain has a great many subtle uses which make it perfect for espionage.
