Kushmall

Basic Species Description

Kushmall are natives of the planet Reanas, a type of large highly-evolved hive-mind purple sulfur bacterial that forms colonies. Most typically they live in oxygen-deprived areas of the planet, forming more complex creatures and self-preservation infiltration of the forms of other species. Mostly bacterial architecture by thermal vents, hot springs, etc. Most kushmall have a weak telepathic link between entities to share information, but the Empress cannot control other kushmall solely from that link, and it does not typically link to other species. Like the luniis, the kushmall are all about evolving their own species, though only if the Empress approves of new changes, due to how they might diminish her control. Kushmall blood is a dark reddish-orange. In their natural form they breathe nitrogen in, nitrous oxide out (due to dumping as much oxygen out of food and such as possible due to its toxicity) which is analgesic and anesthetic (laughing gas actually) on most carbon-based physiology. They have gills on their torso, three complex grey compound eyes that see full range of color, and smell like a snake with their tongue. They have a ridged back of the neck with hair which continues down its spine, a bone endoskeleton and exoskeleton, with hair growing from the scalp, forearms, lower legs, top of feet, and along their back.

History of the Species

The kushmall species evolved in sulfuric springs on Reanas, where the oxygen content of the environment was almost non-existent. The bacterial colonies eventually learned how to not only form more complex structures, but how to absorb samples from other species and use them to mimic the species, though not the individual the sample came from originally.

Base Species Genetics

The genetics for a kushmall are as follows:

(D6) Infiltrating Moderate Mutable, Moderate Mimicking Body: This species is able to switch up to both sex genes by 1 variation daily spending 1 FP, and alter their body to appear to be an individual of a species they have gained a genetic sample from, randomized in appearance the first time and the same one after if mimicking that species, spending 1 FP and 1 gene sample.

(D4) Strong Mutative Disease Resistance: +2 HP, The blood of this species stops diseases in themselves or others if not yet active, merges mutative diseases together if already activating or active, and causes a +1 chance of mutation occurring when a disease is stopped or fused.

(D3) Weak Amphibious Lungs, Potent Instinct Adaption: +2 Instinct Domain Adaption, +1d10/2 Daily Instinct Domain Advantage, -2 MP in sulfuric water, and -2 HP in non-sulfuric water.

(R3) Mutation Resistant and Courageous: +1d10 Daily Resistance to Mutation, and +2 on Courage Checks.

(R3) Charming Breath: This species breathes out a gas or vapor that makes them seem more charming, for +1 on Beauty Checks, +2 on Charisma Checks and +2 on Charming Checks.

Ethnicities

Kushmall technically are primarily of the same ethnicity, but those that have mutated from that or are descended from those mutant strains end up being persecuted by most kushmall of the primary ethnicity, save for the black and red strains. When one is exposed to enough mutative potential, they are permanently altered to become one of the other strains.

The kuvim kushmall strain is the most common, having lavender to amethyst skin, eggplant or black hair, are generally skilled infiltrators and usually despise other kushmall strains.

(E-4) Weak Oxygen Adaption, Weak Telepathic Link, Focused: -2 against Breath Domain, -1 HP per hour blood is exposed in a normal oxygen environment, and another -1 HP per hour if in a high oxygen environment. Within offensive range, they are able to communicate sound and imagery between those of the same strain or the Empress telepathically, but at -2 Learning, -1 WIL against Psionics, -1 WIL against the Kushmall Empress, and +1 FP. [Kuvim Kushmall]
(E-4) Enduring: +1 EP, and +1d10 Daily EP Advantage. [Kuvim Kushmall]
(E-4) Hearty: +1 HP, and +1d10 Daily HP Advantage. [Kuvim Kushmall]

The kariselem kushmall strain is the next most common, having charcoal grey to jet black skin, periwinkle or white hair, and are generally skilled warriors and subservient to other kushmall strains in general, but especially to the Kushmall Empress.

(E-4) Weak Oxygen Adaption, Weak Subservient Telepathic Link, Mighty: -2 against Breath Domain, -1 HP per hour blood is exposed in a normal oxygen environment, and another -1 HP per hour if in a high oxygen environment. Within offensive range, they are are able to communicate sound and imagery between those of the same strain or the Empress telepathically, but at -1 General WIL against any other kushmall, -1 WIL against the Kushmall Empress specifically, another -2 WIL against the Kushmall Empress if directly looked at her, and +2 on Might Checks. [Kariselem Kushmall]
(E-4) Highly Enduring: +2d10 Daily EP Advantage. [Kariselem Kushmall]
(E-4) Strong Hearted: +2 on Might Checks, and +1d10 Daily HP Advantage. [Kariselem Kushmall]

The kerimnan kushmall strain are rare but somewhat accepted, having blood red to rusty skin, black or lilac hair, and are generally skilled high guard, princes and princesses, or rivals of Kushmall Empress which are hunted down if they do not submit to her authority.

(E-4) Weak Oxygen Adaption, Commanding Presence: -2 against Breath Domain, -1 HP per hour blood is exposed in a normal oxygen environment, and another -1 HP per hour if in a high oxygen environment. +2 to Intimidate Checks, and +1 on Charisma Checks. [Kerimnan Kushmall]
(E-4) Normal Telepathic Link: This individual is able to use their full WIL and Learning against others of the same strain and passes information without reduction from their end. [Kerimnan Kushmall]
(E-4) Strongly Psionic: +1 on Might Checks, +1d10 Daily bonus to Psionic Pool Recovery Rate and +1d10/2 Daily HP Advantage. [Kerimnan Kushmall]

The karnell kushmall strain is the second least common, having cobalt blue to aqua skin, white or eggplant hair, are generally explorers, typically despised by the kuvim, kariselem, and kerimnan kushmall straints.

(E-4) Weak Reproduction, Charming: -2 on attempts to reproduce at all, and another -2 if attempting outside of their 'true' form, and +3 on Charming Checks. [Karnell Kushmall]
(E-4) Enduring: +1 EP, and +1d10 Daily EP Advantage. [Karnell Kushmall]
(E-4) Hearty: +1 HP, and +1d10 Daily HP Advantage. [Karnell Kushmall]

The kardok kushmall strain is the least common, having cobalt blue to aqua skin, white or eggplant hair, are generally explorers, typically despised by the kuvim, kariselem, and kerimnan kushmall straints.

(E-4) Weak Oxygen Adaption Reproduction, Acrobatic: -2 on attempts to reproduce at all, -1 HP per hour blood is exposed in a normal oxygen environment, and another -1 if attempting outside of their 'true' form, and +3 on Acrobatic Checks. [Kardok Kushmall]
(E-4) Normal Exothermic: Turns excess food and drink consumed into heat where they touch for 1 FP. [Kardok Kushmall]
(E-4) Hearty: +1 HP, and +1d10 Daily HP Advantage. [Kardok Kushmall]

Kushmall have their own language, with variations for different strains, though they usually also learn the most prominent local language in the area, and culturally tend to be quick to learn other languages and cultures for the sake of potential infiltration.

Sexes

While kushmall are technically purely hermaphroditic at the bacterial cell level, they form complex structures which may be more or less emphasized toward a sex compared to other species, in large part because their Empress saw that other species reacted more favorably after that adaptation to their basic structures had been made.

(m1) Those with this sex gene have +1 on Grip Checks, +1 on Might Checks and +2 on Stealth Checks. [Kushmall]

(m2) Those with this sex gene have +1 EP, +1 on Reflex Checks, and +1 on Accuracy Checks. [Kushmall]

(f1) Those with this sex gene have +1 on Grip Checks and +3 on Might Checks. [Kushmall]

(f2) Those with this sex gene have +1 EP, +1 on Agility Checks and +1 on Reflex Checks. [Kushmall]

(n1) Those with this sex gene have +2 on Learning Checks, and +2 on Observation Checks. [Kushmall]

(n2) Those with this sex gene have +1 EP, +1 on Balance Checks, and +1 on Accuracy Checks. [Kushmall]

For the sake of this playtest, the rules for food and drink that are optional are not being utilized, and respiration is utilizing the two-fail check mechanic for reducing from one level of respiration to another, rather than the more advanced mechanic.
